    About the Event

    The lifETIME CDT has partnered with Extracellular Matrix Network (ECMage) and the Building Links in Ageing Science and Technology Network (BLAST) to bring together a multidisciplinary networking conference. ECMage and BLAST are part of the UK Ageing Network. We aim to create an environment where ideas and knowledge can be shared to create, design, and accelerate therapeutic discoveries.

    Programme 

    CDT Student Day | 30th January | 2pm – 6pm 

    The student day will bring together our growing network of academics, partners, iClub, steering board members and students.

    During the event our students will showcase their multidisciplinary research with 10-minute talks from our 2020 student cohort, and quickfire presentations from our 2021 student cohort. The full programme for the Student Day is available here.

    Joint lifETIME | ECMage | BLAST Networking Conference Ageing Networks | 31st January | 9am – 5pm 

    The joint event will continue with selected 10-minute talks from the 2020 student cohort, and quickfire presentations from 2021 student cohorts in the first part of the morning.

    From 11am there will be 10-minute presentations from ageing network members, along with a CDT student talk and an invited keynote talk. We will also facilitate a sandpit discussion focused on equality, diversity, and inclusion. The 2022 student cohort will have the opportunity to share their research progress with posters.

    Conference Dinner and Student-led Quiz | 31st January | 7pm – 10pm 

    Please join us for a three-course meal with drinks and a student-led quiz. The conference dinner will also take place at the Edgbaston Park Hotel and Conference Centre. 

    CDT Career Event | 1st February | 9am – 12noon

    We will host a ½ day careers event to provide an opportunity for students to engage with potential employers and gather information on specific sectors of interest.

    We will facilitate sector specific round table discussions across industry, academia, charity, funding, and entrepreneurship.

    Students will pre-book seats at two tables of their choice with the opportunity to ask questions and discuss a career within the field in more detail.

    Sectors includes:

    • Industry – Cell Guidance Systems, Qkine and, HORIBA UK
    • Academia – University of Birmingham Academics
    • Charities –  Scar Free Foundation
    • Funders – EPSRC and N8 Research
    • Entrepreneurship – Electrospinning Company and Sphere Fluidics

    Event Location

    The event will take place at the Edgbaston Park Hotel and Conference Centre which is located on the University of Birmingham campus. The venue is two miles from Birmingham City Centre, with direct train routes to the University station.

    Accommodation

    Accommodation for the duration of the conference is available within the conference centre, please inform the hotel that you are attending the conference when booking and a discount will be applied.
